May 14, 1864, Suspension of Execution

The largest number of telegrams Lincoln sent pertained to his review of military courts martial. This telegram, typical of his clemency decisions, did not pardon the individual but suspended carrying out of the sentence until further word from Lincoln (which was never forthcoming).
